House extensions
If you’re building a new home, adding an extension, or converting a garage, you need a bricklayer who knows what they’re doing and shows up when they say they will. That’s me. I’m not the cheapest, and I don’t pretend to be. But I do good work, and it lasts. Which, when it comes to something you’re going to live in, is what actually matters.
New Build Brickwork
- Full external brickwork and blockwork for new homes
- Inner leaf blockwork for cavity wall construction
- Outer leaf brickwork in a range of brick types and finishes
- Structural brickwork to engineer specifications
- Load-bearing walls and internal block walls
- Brick piers, columns, and entrance features
- Garage and outbuilding brickwork
Extensions and Property Alterations
Extensions are probably the most common thing I get called out for. Homeowners across Livingston, Bathgate, and Broxburn want to extend their homes rather than move, and fair enough. I handle all the brickwork involved, including:
- Extension brickwork matched to your existing property
- Knock-through structural openings for open-plan living
- Steel lintel and RSJ installation (working to structural engineer specs)
- New window and door openings in existing brickwork
- Garage conversions requiring brickwork elements
- Porch brickwork and canopy supports
Matching existing brickwork is one of those things that looks easy and absolutely is not. Different eras of house building in West Lothian used different bricks, different mortar colours, different bond patterns. I take the time to source the right brick and get the mortar mix right. If you’ve ever seen a badly matched extension, you’ll know why this matters.
Specialist Finishes and Feature Brickwork
Brick archways and entrance pillars are also popular, particularly on newer homes in areas like Dechmont and Carmondean where people want a bit of character. I’m happy to work from plans or, if you’re not sure what you want, to come up with something that suits the property.
Get Started
Working with Other Trades
On any house building project, the bricklayer has to work with plenty of other trades. Joiners, plasterers, electricians, plumbers. After 15 years doing this, I know how to keep my work progressing without getting in the way of everyone else, and I know how to coordinate so that things go in the right order. That’s the kind of experience that makes a real difference on a build.
